St Malachy‘s opened in 1987, is situated in an attractive environment adjoining Castlewellan Forest Park. The accommodation comprises 16 well-equipped classrooms, three of which are used to teach children with moderate learning difficulties. Each classroom opens out onto an activity area with its own cloakroom/toilet facilities. The school has a large assembly/physical education hall, and a modern meals kitchen with a pleasant dining room. An administrative block and staff room complete the accommodation. Outdoors we have a number of multi-purpose play areas and a grass pitch. Children have access to a number of education resources; computer work-stations and science/design technology equipment.
A purpose build Nursery Unit was opened in 2002. There are 26 full - time places available. The Nursery is situated in the school's playing field and access is from the school yard.
A Faith (Catholic) school
We try to ensure that the vision and day to day work and experiences of our children and staff are guided and shaped by Gospel values with Christ at the centre. This aspiration is supported and strengthened by the importance we attach to prayer, and to preparation for sacramental liturgies during the year.
